LA Local Hire Online Orientation and Application (Temporary)

Due to the current issues related to COVID-19, LA Local Hire is temporarily offering interested candidates the option to complete the application process online. This includes an online orientation session, a job-readiness assessment over the phone, and the option to submit an application online. In order to begin this process, please complete the following steps:

1. Complete the online orientation by clicking on the video below. Please note that this video contains a lot of very important information related to the Targeted Local Hire Program and the Bridge to Jobs Program; therefore, please be sure to watch the complete video and take notes of how the programs work, including the types of careers you may be interested in. Please do this prior to calling an Application Site for your job readiness assessment.

2. Call one of the Application Sites listed below to schedule a telephone job readiness assessment. Reminder: If you plan to apply for the Bridge to Jobs Program under the requirement of having a high school diploma or equivalent, you must email, fax or mail acceptable proof of the high school diploma to your Application Site before your telephone job readiness appointment. Acceptable proof includes official transcripts from a domestic high school that show your legal name and graduation/completion date or a copy of your high school diploma. Note, we will also accept official transcripts or a copy of a diploma showing that a college degree has been completed (e.g., Associate Degree). If you cannot show acceptable proof of a high school diploma or equivalent, you may still apply to the program by choosing to take either the CASAS Test or the City Aptitude Test, both of which assess mathematics and reading skills. During the job readiness assessment, if you are deemed "job ready" you will be issued a Referral Code to submit your online application for either the Targeted Local Hire Program and/or the Bridge to Jobs Program. Please note that some Applications Sites may be temporarily pausing all functions, including anything related to the Targeted Local Hire Program and the Bridge to Jobs Program. If you are unable to reach someone at a particular Application Site, please try any of the other locations listed below until you are assisted. How Do I Apply?

In order to apply to the LA Local Hire Program, you will need to complete the following steps:

1. Schedule a job readiness assessment AND be deemed job ready by an approved Referral Agency; and
2. If you are deemed job ready, receive a Referral Form signed by the Referral Agency; and
3. Schedule and attend a LA Local Hire Program Orientation & Application Session at an approved Application Site to submit your TLH and/or BRIDGE Program application(s).

Where Do I Start?

Contact a Referral Agency and indicate you are interested in applying for the LA Local Hire Program. The Referral Agency will set up an appointment with you to start the process, or help you find appropriate services. Note that certain agencies may have qualifying or eligibility criteria before they are able to provide services.

REFERRAL AGENCY

Referral Agencies that are signed on with the LA Local Hire Program are:

• City of Los Angeles WorkSource Centers (15 locations Citywide)
• Approved community-based organizations and other agencies that provide services related to job readiness/training
• City departmental HR offices (for exempt, part-time workers only)

If the Referral Agency determines you are job-ready, they will sign an Agency Referral Form on your behalf. You will need this to schedule an appointment at an Application Site (where you will submit the actual Program Application)

APPLICATION SITE

Application Sites conduct LA Local Hire Orientation & Application Sessions. During these sessions, candidates will receive an orientation about both the Targeted Local Hire and Bridge to Jobs Programs before sitting in a computer room to submit Program Application(s) online. All sessions are by appointment only once a candidate submits a properly completed Agency Referral Form. All Application Sites are also Referral Agencies.
